Em 1992 foi ministrado o primeiro Curso de Verão em Fisiologia e Farmacologia oferecido pelo Programa de Pós-Graduação em Ciências Biológicas, do Instituto de Ciências Biológicas - UFMG. Por tradição, a organização e execução do curso são de responsabilidade dos mestrandos e doutorandos do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Ciências Biológicas: Fisiologia e Farmacologia.

Desde a sua criação vem ocorrendo todos os anos entre os meses de janeiro e fevereiro. A partir de 1998 começou a ser realizado em âmbito nacional, contando com a participação de alunos provenientes de diferentes regiões do país.

No ano de 2000, o Curso de Verão passou a ser denominado Curso de Verão 'Prof. Wilson Teixeira Beraldo', em homenagem ao Professor Emérito da UFMG, pela sua grande figura humana e brilhante cientista.

O Curso de Verão destina-se a alunos de graduação de cursos da área biológica ou da saúde, que tenham interesse em aprofundar seus conhecimentos em Fisiologia, Biofísica e Farmacologia, através de um curso teórico-prático.

Além disso, este curso tem como objetivo propiciar aos alunos de graduação conhecimentos sobre as diferentes linhas de pesquisa realizadas no Departamento de Fisiologia e Biofísica e no Departamento de Farmacologia, permitindo uma integração entre o conhecimento teórico e técnicas de pesquisa, aprofundando e atualizando seus conhecimentos nessas áreas.
